Stephanie Ridings Wins Bite Size Commission

Stephanie is an Artist I have an ongoing relationship with after producing her hit show Unknown Male in January this year. On the 2nd of May 2015 she presented a 20 minute extract from a brand new work: The Road to Huntsville as part of the First Bite platform run by China Plate and it's partners mac birmingham and Warwick Arts Centre.

We are delighted China Plate have offered her one of two commission that come out of the First Bite platform. It will see the project commissioned by China Plate, mac birmingham and Warwick Arts Centre, as well as continuing to be supported by Birmingham REP.

The Road to Huntsville will explore a range of themes including issues surrounding the death penalty, feminism, mental health and much more.

"I’m trying to understand women who marry men on death row. I’m trying not to be judgmental. The Road to Huntsville is an exploration into unconventional love, state homicide and challenging preconceptions."

We're really excited to be moving this project at pace now, and cooking up plans so we can open this brand new work with our fantastic new partners next year.

Stephanie will also showcase a second extract at the Bite Size platform (First Bite's sister festival) in November 2015.
